Bringing still images to life is fascinating – you can capture a full sunrise and reproduce it in one single video. To make time-lapse movies, take a few (or many) photos at specific intervals and then stitch them together. Sounds easy? Well, in reality, things could get a bit tricky.
How to make a time-lapse video on your Mac
If you have a mess of photos – all of which have to be edited – it’s not that simple to turn them into a logical visual flow. There are cameras that have time-lapse functionality, but when it comes to processing thousands of images, you need an extra utility like GlueMotion to sort these out.
Take time-lapse photography to the next level
Take as many photos as you need: dozens, hundreds, or even thousands. GlueMotion is a time-lapse app for Mac that spares you the trouble of manual image sorting. Designed for professional use, it also has advanced batch editing, deflickering, and encoding capabilities. Not only does it assemble tons of images into a video, GlueMotion edits and deflickers large photo sequences in no time.

Try a free tool that turns your images into a beautiful timelapse. It's on Setapp, one click away.
To import images to create a time-lapse movie:
- Open the app and click the plus sign in the top left corner. You can either pick specific photos or upload an entire folder.
- Organize and adjust images inside the browser.

Batch edit images
A built-in editor included in GlueMotion helps you polish all images in one go. Any changes you make will apply to all frames in your time-lapse, so that you don’t have to do the same things over and over again. Customize basic settings like exposure, contrast, and saturation; apply rotation or crop your images – there are plenty of options.
Fix video flicker
The problem that often comes with time-lapse videos is the difference in brightness between images, aka flickering. With GlueMotion, you can get this right with just a few clicks. The application analyzes your images and optimizes brightness for each of them. Flawless user experience is what sets GlueMotion apart– you don’t have to use command line to perform deflickering. Just go to Deflickering Settings, choose the desired correction method, and set a region for brightness enhancement – it’s that easy.
Set up encoding
At the final stage, select filename and destination for your time lapse movie. Then, use the drop-down menus to customize file format and other metadata. You can store videos in MOV, MP4, or M4V and use one of the best video codecs – H.264, Apple ProRes, or HEVC. Should you need to slow down a time lapse video (super helpful if you’re creating a slideshow presentation), GlueMotion allows you to specify a frame rate in the FPS field.
GlueMotion is a one-stop solution helping you batch edit, deflicker, and transform tons of images into cohesive time lapse videos.
Meantime, prepare for all the awesome things you can do with Setapp.
