Open a site in Safari on your iPhone, or a location in Apple Maps, or start an email in Mail—switch to your Mac, bring up the dock, and you should see an app icon with a small phone symbol next. I click on your link to the app and it worked just fine. Have you got the newest iTunes? 8.2.1.6 is the newest version. But yes you have to download apps through App Store. As fare as I know, there isn`t any other way to install apps then the App Store-way.
