Eventide ‘s Crystals is a new addition to the H9 plugin series and is a treasure trove for extraordinary pitch, delay, & reverb effects.

Eventide has expanded its H9 plugin range once again. Reminder: the plugins, as well as the iOS AUv3 apps, are based on the same algorithms as those from the H9 hardware effect pedal. A clever decision in the development, so you can use the algorithms in several products on different platforms. The latest addition is called Crystals and is an effect processor that combines two reverse pitch shifters with reverse delays and reverb.

The effect is based on the iconic H3000 Harmonizer that can be used to create out-of-this-world climbing and cascading pitched delays or to create unique sounding reverbs. There are not simple delays but two reverse granular delays that can be adjusted in the length and pitch. Of course, the best-known ribbon controller is also on board which allows you to modulate many parameters at once. Especially nice on iOS with the touchscreen.

I already dealt with this algorithm before the plugin version. It is located in the H9 pedal version and it is not a standard effect. Eventide describes it as a non-one-trick pony effect, that’s true. The plugin is very versatile and capable of creating a wide of sounds: huge reverbs, crystal-like sounding delays, pitch-shifting effects or just adding life to synths.

Also possible a very weird and unique sound effects or use it as an ambient looper (long delay times + high feedback). In my opinion, Crystals is one of the most special algorithms in the entire H9 series. It’s not a classic delay, reverb or pitch shifter, it’s all together and intelligently tuned and combined

Features

  • Two pitch-shifters, each with a four-octave range from two octaves down to two octaves up
  • Two independently adjustable delays, up to 4 seconds each, with their own individual feedback
  • Reverb with 100 seconds of decay
  • Make it musical by micro-pitching each voice around the 4th (500 cents), 5th (700 cents), or octave (1200 cents)
  • Smooth out delay grains by applying up to 4 seconds of delay for each voice
  • RIBBON lets you ‘play’ the effect in real-time and provides dynamic and fluid control to morph back and forth between the settings of your choice
  • FLEX shifts both voices up one octave at the push of a button
  • MIXLOCK keeps MIX control constant as you audition presets

These new Audio Units can be run inside host apps like Cubasis, AUM, AudioBus, and GarageBand. They come with presets, and are as easy to use as the versions in the Eventide H9 pedal, or the. The Eventide H9 is a guitar effects pedal that has tens different effects algorithms inside it, and up to 99 presets. All of these are controlled by a few buttons, and one big knob.

Here is one of the algorithms in the H9 pedal in combination with the Arturia MiniBrute 2

Eventide Crystals is available now for PC & Mac in VST/VST3, AU & AAX plugin formats at an intro price of $39 USD/39€ until July 6th, 2020. The plugin is also available as an iOS AUv3 app for $9.99 USD on the Apple AppStore.
