BeeAware (also known as BeAware) is an adware-type potentially unwanted application (PUA) that users often install unintentionally. These PUAs are designed to deliver various online advertisements and record information relating to browsing habits. Uninstall these applications immediately, since they can cause a number of issues.
If you encounter a 'Software Update' pop-up window informing you of an update for a new version of BeeAware, it is likely that this and a number of other adware-type applications will be installed on your Mac computer (if you click 'OK'). Adware is software that continually feeds users with various advertisements (coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on). This situation can affect overall browsing quality, since the ads are often displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content. If clicked, they redirect to deceptive/untrustworthy websites. Some might lead to potentially malicious websites or even execute scripts that download/install other unwanted apps (such as adware). These PUAs commonly record browsing-related information including IP addresses, search queries, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, and so on. Furthermore, adware developers share the information with other parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, having these apps installed might cause privacy, browsing safety problems, or even identity theft. If the BeeAware app is installed on your Mac, uninstall it immediately.

There are countless adware-type apps on the internet. Users often install them unintentionally or are tricked. Other examples include MacPro Install, MyCouponsmart, and PDF Tycoon. Developers usually promote them as 'useful applications', however, when installed, they deliver none of the functionality promised. On the contrary, most cause issues and are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
How did BeeAware install on my computer?
Generally, adware-type (and other potentially unwanted apps) are installed through clicked deceptive ads or when software developers use the 'bundling' method. Bundling is used to trick users into installing unwanted apps together with other software. Typically, these installations are achieved by hiding unwanted apps in 'Custom', 'Advanced', and other similar settings/options of the installation or download set-ups. Generally, information regarding the inclusion (bundling) of these apps within set-ups is not properly disclosed. Furthermore, users who skip download/installation steps often allow them to be installed inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software using official and trustworthy websites (or other sources) and direct links. Do not use third party tools such as third party software installers, peer-to-peer networks, unofficial websites, etc. Do not skip download or installation steps without checking 'Custom', 'Advanced', and other options/settings. If there are any additional (potentially unwanted) applications offered, deselect them and only then finish the download or installation. There are many intrusive ads that redirect to deceptive, untrustworthy or even malicious websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, or similar). If you encounter these ads, check the list of installed programs on your computer. Also, check installed extensions, add-ons, and plugins on your browser. Remove all unwanted/unknown entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with BeeAware, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
